Reptilians

Serpentine and reptilian beings are among the most widespread figures in world mythology. The feathered serpent Quetzalcoatl was a major Mesoamerican deity; the Nagas of Hindu and Buddhist tradition are semi-divine serpent beings; and dragons recur from China to Europe as guardians or symbols of sovereignty. These are culturally specific religious symbols, each embedded in its own cosmology, and scholars explain their recurrence through shared human experience (snakes as objects of fear and fascination) rather than a single literal source.

Ancient Aliens and the ancient-astronaut hypothesis gather these scattered serpent gods into a single thesis: that they are memories of a real reptilian extraterrestrial race. This stream merges with a distinct modern conspiracy lineage founded by the British writer David Icke, who from the 1990s claimed that shape-shifting reptilians secretly control world governments through hybrid bloodlines.

Researchers and anti-extremism watchdogs treat the modern reptilian narrative as both pseudoscientific and dangerous. Icke endorsed The Protocols of the Elders of Zion — a notorious antisemitic forgery — in 1990s books, and when challenged reframed it as evidence of a ‘reptilian’ rather than Jewish plot; critics including HOPE not hate argue that the reptilian elite functions as coded antisemitism, mapping classic conspiratorial tropes onto a science-fiction veneer. There is, separately, no biological or archaeological evidence for reptilian humanoids; the comparative mythology is fully explained without them.
