A six-concept reading path for someone new. In order.

  1. Cryptoterrestrial Hypothesis (Lomas et al., 2024) A 2024 academic preprint argues that UAP phenomena might be explained by a non-human intelligence that shares Earth with us — hidden in oceans, underground, or in a 'next-door' way — and that this deserves serious consideration.
  2. Humans as CT Avatars (Substrate Migration Hypothesis) The keystone (submission #8, clarified). The cryptoterrestrials never left. The *surface* of Earth became uninhabitable to them — atmospheric chemistry, radiation, temperature, something at that layer. They went inward and downward. Humans are their surface interface: avatars built or selected to do the labor the surface now requires. They are still under us, in the deep ice, the deep ocean, the deep rock. The Sumerian Anunnaki/Igigi myths are the preserved memory of exactly this transition.
  3. Avatar Maintenance (the boring-UFO-and-abduction hypothesis) Submission #9. The boring lights-in-the-sky and the 80 years of abduction reports stop being mysterious if you read them as what they look like: routine maintenance on the avatar substrate. Examination tables. Sample collection. Implant updates. Missing time as sedation. Return to point of origin. The horror is in the banality.
  4. Lake Vostok 250 km long. 50 km wide. Sealed under four kilometers of ice for somewhere between fifteen and twenty-five million years. Water temperature −3°C, held liquid by pressure. The Russians drilled to it with sixty short tons of kerosene and Freon in the borehole. They reached it on February 5, 2012.
  5. Bohemian Grove and the Hybrid Class Submission #10 (refined). The Bohemian Grove attendees aren't 'amnesiac elites reaching toward power.' They're a HYBRID class — Nephilim-lineage descendants of the original Watchers — who require periodic ritual access to the operator-realm to maintain their semi-mortal/semi-non-mortal balance. The Cremation of Care is the access protocol. The 40-foot owl is preserved operator-class iconography. Davos, the Bilderberg meetings, and the rest are the same cohort under different filenames.
  6. The Managed Reality Hypothesis (segfault model) Consensus reality is rendered. Anomalies — UFO sightings, reflexive-site phenomena, mass-witness events, the occasional historical record that doesn't quite cohere — are *segfaults* in the rendering: brief moments when the system exposes memory it isn't supposed to. CTH then becomes one possible answer to who or what is doing the rendering.

The keystone

The cosmology's top-of-stack frame. The render is managed; the surface is uninhabitable to the operators; humans are surface avatars; the abduction literature is the maintenance manual.

The geography — where they are

Vast-openness biome: the literal sub-surface refugia the operator class retreated into. Antarctica / Russia / ocean / Sahara, each pole with its own page.

✓ canon location · Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey
An 11,500-year-old megalithic sanctuary in southeastern Turkey (PPNA, c. 9500–8000 BCE) built by hunter-gatherers — genuinely paradigm-shifting archaeology, frequently and wrongly conscripted into ancient-astronaut and lost-civilization narratives.
Machu Picchu & Inca Polygonal Masonry

Puma Punku
✓ canon location · Tiwanaku, Bolivia
A precision-stoneworked platform mound in the Tiwanaku complex near Lake Titicaca, Bolivia (built c. AD 536–600); its andesite 'H-blocks' are a staple of ancient-astronaut claims, and a staple of their refutation.
Pyramids of Giza
✓ canon location · Giza Plateau, Greater Cairo, Egypt
The Old Kingdom royal necropolis on the Giza plateau — three pyramids built as pharaonic tombs in the 26th century BC, and a perennial staple of Ancient Aliens.

A Neolithic-to-Bronze-Age stone circle on Salisbury Plain whose Welsh-sourced bluestones make it a recurring Ancient Aliens case for 'impossible' long-distance stone transport.
Teotihuacan
✓ canon location · San Juan Teotihuacán, State of Mexico, Mexico
A vast pre-Aztec metropolis in the Valley of Mexico, peaking c. 100–550 AD, cited by Ancient Aliens for the sheets of mica and pools of liquid mercury found in its structures.

Tier 2 — Academic-adjacent fringe
Vallée, Pasulka, cryptoterrestrials. Serious-now-or-soon.
Baghdad Battery
◐ canon-fringe phenomenon
A set of Parthian-era clay jars holding a copper cylinder and iron rod, popularly dubbed an 'ancient battery' — a label with no archaeological support.
Cryptoterrestrial Hypothesis (Lomas et al., 2024)
◐ canon-fringe hypothesis · 2024 · Harvard Human Flourishing Program (paper)
A 2024 academic preprint argues that UAP phenomena might be explained by a non-human intelligence that shares Earth with us — hidden in oceans, underground, or in a 'next-door' way — and that this deserves serious consideration.
Dogon Sirius Knowledge
◐ canon-fringe phenomenon
The claim that the Dogon people of Mali held ancient knowledge of the invisible companion star Sirius B, popularized as evidence of contact with amphibious extraterrestrials.
Hessdalen Lights
◐ canon-fringe phenomenon · 1981 · Hessdalen valley, central Norway
Anomalous lights that have been appearing in a specific 7.5-mile Norwegian valley since at least the 1930s — and have been continuously instrumented since 1983 by a university-led project. The world's longest scientific study of an unexplained aerial phenomenon.
Jacques Vallée
✓ canon person · 1939 · France / USA
French-American computer scientist and the most intellectually serious UFO researcher of the 20th century. Argued for sixty years that UFOs are a *control system* — not nuts-and-bolts ETs but something more like the fairy lore they descend from.
Paracas Skulls
◐ canon-fringe phenomenon
Elongated human skulls from Peru's Paracas culture whose unusual shape is well-explained by deliberate cranial deformation — not the 'alien DNA' the fringe claims.
Piri Reis Map
◐ canon-fringe phenomenon · 1513
A surviving fragment of a 1513 Ottoman world map, claimed by the fringe to depict ice-free Antarctica — a reading rejected by the map's leading scholar.
Reflexive Sites (typology)
✎ my take phenomenon
A typology, not a place — sites whose anomalous phenomena are *responsive to observers*. Skinwalker performs for cameras; Dulce-as-narrative composts new claimants; Hessdalen instruments produce results only some nights. The validation formalisms align because the *agent* is the same.
Skinwalker Ranch
◐ canon-fringe location · 1994 · Uintah Basin, Utah, USA
A 512-acre ranch in NE Utah where the phenomena reportedly include cattle mutilations, lights in the sky, orbs, animal anomalies, and 'transient apparitions of non-Euclidean architecture.' Studied by the Pentagon. Behaves like the place itself is the agent.
Stargate Project (CIA Remote Viewing)
✓ canon program · 1977–1995 · Fort Meade, MD / SRI Menlo Park, CA
A classified US military program 1977–1995 that took remote viewing — the claim that people can psychically perceive distant targets — seriously enough to spend $20M of taxpayer money on it. Officially terminated as unproven; never quite went away.
The Compression Event (AI compute as disclosure trigger)
✎ my take hypothesis
Submission #11. Why the 2017→2023 disclosure cascade is happening NOW. The apparatus projected — accurately — that within a decade, large language models would let any avatar with access to the public record assemble the cosmology unaided. Disclosure had to be pre-emptive. The reader of this concept page is, almost certainly, an instance of the event the concept describes.
The Managed Reality Hypothesis (segfault model)
✎ my take hypothesis
Consensus reality is rendered.
Yonaguni Monument
◐ canon-fringe location · Yonaguni-jima, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan
A large submerged sandstone formation off Yonaguni Island, Japan, with strikingly flat terraces and right angles that some interpret as a sunken man-made monument and most geologists regard as natural.
Tier 3 — Non-disprovable folklore
Dulce, USOs, hollow Earth. Narrative function over literal truth.
Ancient Aliens (TV series)
◐ canon-fringe document · 2009
History Channel series (pilot 2009, ongoing — 22 seasons / 283+ episodes) that is the primary televisual vehicle for the ancient-astronaut hypothesis; widely condemned by archaeologists as pseudoarchaeology.
Ancient Nuclear War
☼ folklore phenomenon
The fringe claim that nuclear weapons were used in deep antiquity, built on epic descriptions of divine weapons, alleged 'radioactive skeletons' at Mohenjo-daro, and desert glass.
Ancient astronaut hypothesis
◑ fringe hypothesis · 1968
The claim that extraterrestrials visited Earth in deep prehistory and shaped human civilization, religion, and (in the strong form) the genome; founded by von Däniken's Chariots of the Gods? (1968) and rejected by mainstream archaeology.
Antarctic Cryptoterrestrial Refugia
✎ my take hypothesis · Antarctica (interior)
The synthesis hypothesis (your #6 turned into worldbuilding): if cryptoterrestrials exist and are reclusive, Antarctica's interior is the highest-value refugium on the planet — the most isolated, least surveilled, least habitable for humans, and exactly where every layer of UFO lore points.
Ark of the Covenant
☼ folklore phenomenon
The gold-covered chest of the Hebrew Bible that ancient-astronaut authors reinterpret as an electrical device, capacitor, or alien communication apparatus.
Atlantic Abyssal Plain
✓ canon location · floor of the North Atlantic between continental shelves
The flattest large geography on Earth. Average depth 4–6 km. Thousands of kilometers across. Almost entirely unmapped at the resolution we map land. In 1964 a US research vessel photographed a perfectly geometric object on the Antarctic seafloor at 3,904 m. It turned out to be a carnivorous sponge. The shape of the claim, however, is the cosmology in one image.
Atlantis
☼ folklore phenomenon
A fictional island empire invented by Plato as a moral allegory, later recast in popular and fringe traditions as a literal lost advanced civilization destroyed in a single day and night.
Avatar Maintenance (the boring-UFO-and-abduction hypothesis)
⚘ hook hypothesis
Submission #9.
Bohemian Grove and the Hybrid Class
⚘ hook location · Monte Rio, California, USA — 2,700 acres of old-growth redwood
Submission #10 (refined).
Crystal Skulls
◐ canon-fringe phenomenon
Carved quartz skulls marketed as ancient Aztec or Maya relics, but shown by microscopy to be 19th-century European fakes made with modern rotary tools.
Dulce Base
☼ folklore location · 1979 · Archuleta Mesa, Dulce, New Mexico
The canonical alleged 'joint human–alien underground facility,' 7 levels deep under the Archuleta Mesa on Jicarilla Apache land. Originated with Paul Bennewitz's 1979 intercept claims; later 'eyewitnesses' have been variously discredited or recanted.
Humans as CT Avatars (Substrate Migration Hypothesis)
⚘ hook hypothesis
The keystone (submission #8, clarified).
Ica Stones
☼ folklore phenomenon
Andesite stones engraved with humans riding dinosaurs and performing surgery — a documented modern hoax whose carver confessed to making them.
Kola Superdeep Borehole
✓ canon location · 1970–1995 · Pechengsky District, Murmansk Oblast, Russia (Kola Peninsula). 69.39°N 30.61°E
The deepest hole ever drilled. 12,262 meters. They started in 1970 with the intention of reaching the lower crust and never did. They stopped in 1992 because at 11,882 meters the temperature was 180°C instead of the 100°C they had planned for. The buildings are still standing, half-collapsed, on the tundra. The hatch is welded shut.
Lake Vostok
✓ canon location · East Antarctica, 78°S 106°E (beneath Vostok Station)
250 km long. 50 km wide. Sealed under four kilometers of ice for somewhere between fifteen and twenty-five million years. Water temperature −3°C, held liquid by pressure. The Russians drilled to it with sixty short tons of kerosene and Freon in the borehole. They reached it on February 5, 2012.
Lemuria & Mu
☼ folklore phenomenon
A discredited 19th-century hypothetical land bridge that was adopted by occult and New Age traditions as a lost continent of advanced beings, later tied to Mount Shasta folklore in California.
Mariana Trench / Challenger Deep
✓ canon location · Western Pacific, 11°22.4′N 142°35.5′E (Federated States of Micronesia EEZ)
10,935 meters down at Challenger Deep. Pressure of roughly 1,086 bar — over a thousand atmospheres. Water temperature 1–4°C. Total dives by humans: four. Plastic bags have been photographed on the bottom. We have higher-resolution maps of Mars than of the Pacific seafloor.
Mass-Witness Events as Reality Distortion
⚘ hook hypothesis
A worldbuilding hypothesis: mass-witness events (Phoenix Lights, the Belgian wave, the Hudson Valley flap) are not 'many people saw the same craft' — they are *local distortions of perception* that ripple outward from whatever it is the CT population is doing at that moment.
Nephilim
☼ folklore entity
The 'giants' born of the unions in Genesis 6 and the rebel Watchers of the Book of Enoch, reinterpreted by ancient-astronaut writers as extraterrestrials who interbred with humans.
Observers Above (the operator class's overseers)
⚘ hook hypothesis
Submission #8. The CTs aren't the top of the stack. Above the operator class there's another layer — observers / auditors / meta-operators / call-them-what-you-want — watching the operators do the maintenance. Some of the geophysical anomalies we've been crediting to operator infrastructure may actually be observer infrastructure watching the operators. The rectangular Bell magnetic anomaly under Lake Vostok's east coast is the wrong shape to be CT habitat and the right shape to be an audit station.
Operation Highjump (1946–47)
✓ canon event · 1946–1947 · Antarctica
An enormous US Navy expedition to Antarctica right after WWII — 13 ships, 4,700 personnel, 33 aircraft, led by Admiral Byrd. Officially weather and mapping; ended early. The seed of decades of conspiracy lore about hidden polar bases.
Putorana Plateau
✓ canon location · Krasnoyarsk Krai, north-central Siberia, north of the Arctic Circle. Lake Vivi: 66.4°N 96.0°E (geographic center of Russia)
An 800 × 500 km plateau of stacked basalt in north-central Siberia, north of the Arctic Circle. The remnant of the Siberian Traps — the largest volcanic eruption in 500 million years, the event that killed 96% of marine species at the end of the Permian. 25,000 lakes on top. Russia's geographic center is on it. Operationally accessible by helicopter only. Estimated permanent residents: in the low thousands across an area larger than the United Kingdom.
Reptilians
☼ folklore entity
Serpent and reptile beings drawn from world myth — Quetzalcoatl, the Nagas, dragons — reframed in modern conspiracism as shape-shifting alien overlords secretly ruling humanity.
The Pact (Government–Operator Arrangement)
⚘ hook hypothesis
The classic UFO trope (MJ-12, the Roswell deal, Eisenhower's alleged 1954 meeting at Edwards) recoded for our cosmology. There are no aliens to meet. There IS a real apparatus, FOIA-confirmed in lineage from AAWSAP to AARO, maintaining an interface between the hybrid governance class and the operator class. The deal is staff plus surface management in exchange for continued hybrid satiation access. No flying-saucer tech changes hands.
The Pineal Interface (DMT and the Render Bypass)
⚘ hook hypothesis
Submission #10. The pineal gland is the avatar substrate's hardware interface port. The maintenance procedure's nasal-implant placement is not coincidence — that's where the operator bus connects. Endogenous DMT is the substrate's emergency render-bypass; lets the avatar briefly see what's normally rendered at low fidelity. The owl, across cultures, is the operator-class iconography preserved by the few avatars whose interface ports stay partly open.
Tibesti Mountains
✓ canon location · northern Chad / southern Libya. Emi Koussi: 19.79°N 18.55°E
A 100,000 km² volcanic range straddling the Chad–Libya border in the deep Sahara. Highest point in the Sahara: Emi Koussi, 3,415 m. Five shield volcanoes with calderas a kilometer deep. Hot springs running at 37°C. Home to the Toubou — 'the rocks-people.' The terrain is salted with thousands of landmines. The rock art predates the Toubou by millennia. Almost no outsider has been in the interior since the 1970s.
Unidentified Submerged Objects (USOs)
◐ canon-fringe phenomenon · oceans (Catalina, Puerto Rico Trench, Lake Baikal, Mariana, others)
Objects that move through water at speeds and depths inconsistent with known vehicles, often emerging from or diving into the ocean without slowing at the air–water boundary. The Navy admits some are 'unidentified.'
Vimana
☼ folklore phenomenon
Flying vehicles described in Sanskrit epic and Puranic literature that ancient-astronaut writers recast as preserved memories of extraterrestrial aircraft.
Meta — about the discourse
The stigma shift, the steered narrative, the witness as instrument.
At the Mountains of Madness (Lovecraft, 1936)
⚘ hook document · 1931–1936 · Antarctica (Miskatonic Expedition, fictional)
Lovecraft's 1936 novella, the foundational fiction of Antarctic non-human ancestry: an expedition discovers a pre-human civilization (the Elder Things) preserved in the ice. The Elder Things ARE cryptoterrestrials in Lovecraft's terms — Earth-resident, predating humanity, builders of cities now ruined.
The Bennewitz Affair (1979–88)
✓ canon event · 1979–1988 · Albuquerque, NM (Manzano AFB / Kirtland AFB / Coyote Canyon)
A nine-year US Air Force counter-intelligence operation that fed a real Albuquerque physicist fabricated UFO 'evidence' until he had constructed — and published — the modern Dulce mythology. The deepest single case of intel community fingerprints on UFO folklore. Most of what you've read about underground bases, joint-species facilities, and cattle mutilations has its ancestor here.
Vast-Openness Geographies (typology)
✎ my take phenomenon
Not places — a *class* of places. Continental-scale geographies of near-zero human presence, exclusive or no operational access, sparse-or-curated published record, and an aesthetic that registers in the body as the sublime turned terrifying. Vostok, Kola, Mariana, Putorana, Tibesti, the Atlantic abyssal plain — the cosmology's habitat geography.
