New Jersey / Northeast Drone Sightings apparatus-event
Beginning in mid-November 2024, a wave of nighttime drone/light sightings
over New Jersey and the northeastern U.S. generated thousands of public
reports, intense political pressure, and viral misinformation. Federal
agencies concluded the activity was a mix of lawful drones, manned
aircraft, helicopters, and misidentified stars and planets, with no
national-security threat or foreign nexus — while a residue of
unexplained incursions over sensitive sites kept genuine questions open.
The New Jersey drone wave is the corpus's reference case for a mass-
sighting event in the social-media age, and for the gap between "no
threat assessed" and "origin identified." It is a clean modern rerun of
the corpus's oldest pattern — the 1946 ghost rockets, the 1982 Hudson
Valley wave — in which real objects, ordinary aircraft and bright
planets, and public anxiety compound into a self-reinforcing panic, now
accelerated by algorithmic feeds and amplified by elected officials. It
is also a live test of official transparency: the agencies' "nothing
anomalous" was well-supported for the bulk, yet their admission that
they could not corroborate visual sightings with electronic detection,
and a later unsubstantiated "FAA-authorized for research" line, deepened
distrust rather than resolving it.

~100 leads; the activity is "a combination of lawful commercial drones,
hobbyist drones, and law enforcement drones, as well as manned
fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and stars mistakenly reported as
drones," with nothing anomalous identified. Geospatial modeling

Investigative FOIA/TSA documents (Reason, May 2025) resolve specific
cases — the "medevac drones" were three planes approaching Solberg
Airport; a "spraying drone" was a Beechcraft's wingtip vortices; a
viral video was the constellation Orion; Venus and Jupiter (at
opposition 7 Dec 2024) were prime culprits. One year later (Dec 2025),
dozens of NJ sightings remain officially unresolved, and NJ moves to
fund a UAP research center; AARO's 2025 annual report is still
