The RB-47 ELINT Incident under-corroborated
On 17 July 1957, a USAF RB-47H electronic-reconnaissance jet was paced for
roughly 1.5 hours and ~700 miles across the southern US by an object
simultaneously seen by the cockpit crew, picked up by the plane's onboard ELINT
monitors at ~2,800 MHz, and tracked by ground radar — reportedly blinking off
all three sensor channels at the same instant — routinely cited as one of the
best instrumented multi-sensor military UFO cases and classified 'unexplained'
by the Condon Committee.
The RB-47 case is uniquely multi-modal: it folds electronic-intelligence
(ELINT/ECM) detection in with airborne crew visual and ground radar, on a
trained military crew flying the era's most sophisticated signals-collection
platform. Three physically independent sensor channels correlating in bearing
and (allegedly) in simultaneous appearance/disappearance is what makes it hard
to dismiss with any single prosaic mechanism. Within an instrumented-case
corpus it anchors the early Cold-War radar-visual lineage and adds the rare
ELINT dimension few other cases possess.

Lewis Chase reports a light 'bigger than a house' and is granted permission to
pursue. Ground radar at Duncanville, TX confirms a return at the same bearing

Real hits on Klass: his reconstructed path forces the subsonic RB-47 to ~Mach 2 in places, and his specific airliner (National 966) was ~600 mi away near El Paso. These defeat Klass's SPECIFIC geometry — but not the general possibility of S-band ground-radar confusion, and they cannot supply the lost contemporaneous records.

misidentified airliner ~600 mi away). But the load-bearing element — the simultaneous
tri-sensor blink-outs — rests ENTIRELY on crew recollection gathered by McDonald 10-12
years after the fact: there was no contemporaneous Blue Book report, and the original
ELINT tapes, the GCI scope film, and the interrogation materials are all lost. A live
(only partially rebutted) prosaic counter also remains: a real S-band ground radar
whose ~2,800 MHz signal is identical to standard USAF radar — a striking 'coincidence'
for an exotic craft, exactly what misidentified terrestrial radar would produce.
'Open' would assert a verified instrumented anomaly; the honest position is that the
simultaneity is recalled, not recorded — compelling but unverifiable. Held
under-corroborated. (Date also corrected to the well-attested 17 July 1957; McDonald's
