On All Saints' Day 1954, at the peak of the great autumn-1954 European UFO wave,
Tuscan peasant woman Rosa Lotti Dainelli reported a daylight close encounter — a
small spindle/barrel-shaped craft and two ~1-metre 'men' who took her carnations
and a stocking — making it Italy's first and most famous CE3, but a single-witness
account with no physical evidence and an 18-year gap before any serious
investigation.
Cennina is the founding Italian CE3 and the Italian counterpart to Quarouble in the
autumn-1954 European wave — the moment the landing-and-occupant motif reached Italy.
It is a clean study in how a single rural witness, immersed in an intense
flying-disc press wave, produces a folkloric encounter (rabbit-toothed homunculi, a
suitcase-sized craft, carnations taken) that entered the international canon (Vallée's
'Century of Landings' no. 24) long before any rigorous evidence-gathering — which
began only ~18 years later, by which time a verdict was, in CISU's words, 'neither
easy nor reasonably possible.'
