At dawn on 1 July 1965 near Valensole, the respected lavender farmer Maurice Masse reported an ovoid, rugby-ball-shaped craft landed in his field with two small large-headed beings examining the lavender; one pointed a pencil-like device that paralyzed him, fully conscious, for ~15-20 minutes. Afterward the gendarmerie documented a central hole and X-pattern grooves with soil ‘hard as cement,’ a ~3 m patch of lavender died, and Masse suffered months of overwhelming drowsiness. He told researcher Aime Michel that a drawing of the 1964 Socorro object matched what he saw. The case is logged in France’s national archive (GEIPAN) as classification D - unidentified - and rests on a single, widely-credible witness plus corroborated physical traces, with no clean prosaic explanation.
