aka Project Condign — the UK MoD secret UAP study (1997-2000, released 2006)
Project Condign was a classified UK Defence Intelligence Staff study (policy review 1996, study 1997-2000, released 2006) that concluded UAP 'indisputably exist' but show no sign of being hostile or under intelligent/extraterrestrial control - attributing the unexplained residue to a poorly-evidenced 'Buoyant Plasma Formation' hypothesis and recommending the MoD stop spending intelligence resources on the topic.

Notable & intriguing
-
The study was deliberately kept ‘off the radar’ by amending an existing defence contract rather than appearing as a standalone UFO project - the British MoD structured its only major modern UAP study to be administratively invisible.

-
The report explicitly recommended pilots NOT out-manoeuvre a UAP during interception - ‘No attempt should be made to out-manoeuvre a UAP during interception’ - citing reports that Russian/Soviet-successor and Chinese aircraft had been destroyed and four pilots killed ‘chasing UFOs.’
