IncidentThe Alderney / Channel Islands Sighting (23 April 2007)
aka The Alderney / Channel Islands Sighting (23 April 2007)
On 23 April 2007, veteran Aurigny Air Services captain Ray Bowyer reported two enormous, brilliant yellow elongated objects stationary in clear air over the English Channel near Alderney, watched for ~9-15 minutes by himself and passengers, with a second pilot reporting a similar object near-simultaneously - one of the most credible modern multiple-pilot daytime sightings, though a strong atmospheric-optics explanation remains contested.

Notable & intriguing
-
Aurigny captain Ray Bowyer and (near-simultaneously) Blue Islands pilot Patrick Patten reported bright yellow elongated objects over the Channel, with passenger and Sark-visitor corroboration; Jersey radar produced only a faint primary contact considered meteorological, with no confirming track.

-
A 2008 investigation by David Clarke, Paul Fuller, and Martin Shough (also in the Journal of Scientific Exploration) reportedly could not satisfactorily explain the sightings; a sun-dog/mirage atmospheric-optics reading is the leading skeptical candidate, and the object’s size estimates grew over time (from 737-sized to ‘a mile wide’).
