Skiing near Imjärvi (NW of Heinola) at ~-17C dusk on 7 January 1970, Heinonen and Viljo reported a buzzing light, a ~3 m metallic disc descending in red-grey mist, a beam/cone of light, and a ~90 cm hook-nosed humanoid in a green suit holding a black box emitting pulsating yellow light; amid ‘sparks’ and mist, the entity and craft vanished. Both developed symptoms - Heinonen most severely (numbness, dark urine, weakness, weight loss, ~4-month recovery), Viljo milder (facial redness, headaches) - and a clinic doctor could not determine the cause. The case was investigated and published by Finnish/British ufology (GICOFF, Flying Saucer Review); Dr. Pauli Kajanoja noted radiation-like symptoms, Prof. Matti Tuuri (University of Helsinki) allowed that electric shock ‘cannot be ruled out,’ and soil/snow samples (reportedly via the Chalmers Institute) showed normal background radiation.
