IncidentThe Men in Black Origin / Albert Bender (1953)
aka The Men in Black Origin / Albert Bender (1953)
In 1953 Connecticut UFO researcher Albert K. Bender abruptly shut down his pioneering International Flying Saucer Bureau, telling members he had been silenced by three men in dark suits who confirmed the 'truth' about flying saucers; Gray Barker spun the episode into 'They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers' (1956), founding the entire Men-in-Black mythos - best explained as hoax, embellishment, and possible psychological episode.

Notable & intriguing
-
The entire Men-in-Black mythos traces to Bender’s 1953 IFSB shutdown and Gray Barker’s 1956 book ‘They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers’; Barker is documented to have manufactured hoaxes (a forged State Department letter to Adamski; fabricated MIB accounts with John Sherwood) and privately called his output ‘kookie books’ written ‘for the money.’

-
Bender’s own 1962 book ‘Flying Saucers and the Three Men’ escalated the account into astral trips to an Antarctic alien base, atheist aliens, and a sulfurous monster - contents most researchers read as fantasy; a documented mundane trigger is that the IFSB was losing money.
